The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro devices are all about to go on sale in just a matter of hours and that means that more people are going to get a chance to try out what Apple’s engineers have been working on for so long.
Now, it seems that they have been working on new battery features that will show more information while giving users more control over how their batteries are charged.
The first new feature will display how many charge cycles a device’s battery has gone through including the very first time that it was used. That was confirmed by Ray Wong on X, the social network formerly known as Twitter, and will give people a better understanding of how their iPhone’s battery should be expected to charge.
Another new feature will allow people to limit their iPhone’s battery charges to 80%, ensuring that they won’t be charged beyond that point. That’s similar to the Optimized Battery Charging feature that is already available on older iPhones.
Optimized Battery Charging holds the iPhone’s battery at 80% until closer to the time that it is expected to be removed from charge to ensure the battery spends less time at 100% capacity. It’s said that doing so will help ensure the battery’s health doesn’t degrade prematurely.
The 80% limit seems to be a step beyond that, although it isn’t clear why most people would want to take that route. It’s a positive that the option is there for those who want it, however.
