After being removed from the iPhone’s App Store back in 2020, Fortnite is today available to iPhone owners once more — so long as they happen to live in the European Union.
That’s after Epic Games launched the Epic Games Store in that part of the world, opening the door for sideloading of games on Apple’s iPhone.
The news comes as Epic also announced that it will bring its games to independent mobile stores, including the popular AltStore PAL.
Today the Epic Games Store is available for download on iPhones in the European Union and on Android devices worldwide. The store is launching with Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe and the all-new Fall Guys for mobile, and we are working to enable all developers to launch their games and apps through the Epic Games Store in the future. We are also bringing our games to independent mobile stores including AltStore PAL today.
Epic’s Fortnite was removed from the App Store by Apple after it was found to have enabled its own in-app purchase systems, bypassing Apple’s App Store system. That is of course against Apple’s App Store rules, and Fortnite has not been back in the App Store ever since.
Apple’s requirement for a 30% cut of all sales made via the App Store payment method was enough to see Epic Games try to bypass it, only to find itself in legal spats with the iPhone maker that still continue to this day.
