After months of leaks the Beats Studio Buds are finally here and they have a lot to offer over the model that they now sit atop.
The first thing that you’ll notice is no doubt the transparent case option, one that is undoubtedly the best one. But beyond that there are some functional improvements as well.
At the top of the pile is probably the longer battery life. The battery life has been increased from 15 hours to 24 hours when you have noise-canceling enabled, but if you disable it the battery life jumps from 24 hours to 36.
Those figures are when you use the included charging case, of course. Don’t, and you’ll get around six hours of listening time between charges — up from five hours before.
The new earbuds are priced at $169.99, which is a $20 price hole over the original model. In terms of listening, there is a claimed 1.6x improvement in noise cancelation and a 2x improvement when using Transparency mode. Whether most people will notice is another matter, however.
There’s little doubt that these are better earbuds than the original Beats Studio Buds, but whether most people will notice beyond the battery life gains might not matter — consider the relatively small price hike and that gorgeous transparent case and these might just be the way to go regardless of whether or not you liked the original earbuds.
