The Apple TV app is now available for download on Sony’s PS4 and PS5 consoles, just as we were told it would be. Anyone wanting to get their hands on it can do so via the PlayStation Store and the download is, of course, free.
You’ll need a monthly $4.99 Apple TV+ subscription to enjoy Apple’s first-party content, but you’ll have access to Apple TV Channels you already subscribe to right out the gate.
The new launch comes as the PS5 also goes on sale today, November 12, in the United States, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea. Other countries, including those in Europe, have to wait another week to get their consoles.
Apple continues to work to get its Apple TV app onto as many different streaming boxes and TVs as possible. Just this last week we saw the same app launch on all of Microsoft’s Xbox consoles – including the newly released Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
Apple knows that the more people it can get to install its apps, no matter where they might be, the more people it can try to upsell Apple TV+ to. Not to mention movie rentals and purchases via iTunes.
While this is all good news, of course, we’re not sure we’d want to watch a TV show with the PS4’s fans going like crazy. Hopefully that’s something the PS5 will fix.
