If you’re already choosing whether to skip the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro lineups, you’re going to like what we have to say about the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max will be a big upgrade for people who want to get the very best camera capabilities because it is tipped to pack a new zoom camera that will feature a “super” telephoto shooter.
That’s according to a post on the Chinese social network Weibo by leaker Digital Chat Station. His post was picked up by MacRumors, with the report saying that we can expect a drastic improvement in magnification capabilities thanks to the new telephoto camera.
The label of “super” or “ultra” telephoto is usually afforded to cameras with a focal length over 300mm, drastically magnifying and pulling in distant subjects. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro models’ telephoto camera has a focal length of equivalent to 77mm, so a focal length in excess of 300mm on the iPhone 16 Pro Max would be a very large increase.
These kinds of cameras are often used for sports cameras where huge levels of zoom are required. And using an upgraded version of the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s expected periscope camera, it’s thought that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will level things up a step further. That would also allow Apple to continue to differentiate the Pro and Pro Max models considering the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to get the same periscope capabilities of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
We will of course have to wait until 2024 before we can be sure whether this is all accurate and before then we have this year’s iPhones to get out of the way first.
