Tesla appears to be getting ready to change the power meter on its electric vehicles, with the company accidentally detailing the change in a software update that has now been removed.
NotATeslaApp details the change, saying that the new interface is designed to make it easier for people to read the power meter while also returning to a thinner horizontal line as was the case in a previous release.
This combination should give users the best-looking option while still displaying the data that they need.
It appears that Tesla will revert the power meter to the thinner line. Still, it will dynamically increase its thickness during relevant situations, such as sudden surges in power usage (putting the accelerator to the floor) or regenerative braking events.
Tesla’s own release notes for the update said that “the right side of the power meter represents power that is used to accelerate the vehicle.” It went on, saying that “now, when you press the accelerator pedal farther, the line is thicker.”
There’s no indication of when this new interface is going to actually roll out but it shouldn’t be too long — the fact that Tesla accidentally made it available briefly suggests that it might not be that far away from being ready for primetime.
