Tesla’s Full Self-Driving offering still isn’t live anywhere in the world but those in North America have at least been able to take the beta version for a spin for some time now — it launched in the United States in 2020, for example.
Now, things have expanded for the first time with those in Australia, Germany, and Belgium all on the list of those that can install the beta.
As Electrek notes, this doesn’t mean that your car will drive itself everywhere all on its own despite what CEO Elon Musk might say. Instead, there are some limitations to consider — not to mention the fact that this is a beta that isn’t yet ready for wide use.
FSD Beta enables Tesla vehicles to drive autonomously through most driving scenarios – including traffic lights – but under heavy supervision from the driver at all times. It requires frequent driver interventions on top of supervision and, therefore, it is still considered a level 2 driver-assist system.
There’s currently no indication of when the FSD beta will roll out to other countries around the world but this expansion is a welcome one for those who can now take advantage of it in the handful of countries where it’s online.
Musk had previously suggested that the eta would come to Europe and Asia soon, so hopefully more countries will come on line in due course.
