As much as the Cybertruck is a polarizing electric vehicle, there is little doubt that it’s popular among people who want to get a truck of the electric persuasion.
In fact, it’s so popular that it appears to have outsold almost all other EV trucks combined. That’s according to a new report from Automotive News citing data provided by S&P Global Mobility.
New electric vehicle registrations surged 18 percent in July compared with the same month last year on the strength of newer models such as the Tesla Cybertruck and Honda Prologue, according to the most recent U.S. data from S&P Global Mobility. EV leader Tesla broke a five-month losing streak in July, with its registrations rising 1.2 percent compared with a year earlier on robust Cybertruck deliveries of 5,175 vehicles, the data showed. All other EV pickups combined sold 5,546. The Cybertruck launched in November.
As positive as all of this might be, there are still clouds to deal with.
Tesla is believed to still have a backlog of two million preorders that need to be dealt with, with the company also having increased the Cybertruck’s starting price multiple times — you’ll now need to hand over almost $100,000 to get your hand on Tesla’s truck.
Tesla is of course a company that has proven to be hugely popular among EV car buyers so it should perhaps not be all that surprising that the company is also popular among people who buy EV trucks, too.
