Tesla has now stopped taking pre-orders for its Semi truck, replacing the pre-order button on its website with a new one that potential buyers can use to stay updated on the product.
Having previously accepted $20,000 deposits for the Semi truck, this change means that those who haven’t already placed an order are going to have to wait even longer. Those who already got an order in should start to see deliveries take place later this year, according to Tesla.
When those Semi trucks do start to arrive, buyers can expect some specifications to be different to those that were originally planned.
Electrek has the details:
The site now says that the Tesla Semi will have three independent motors (instead of four) and be capable of regaining 70% charge in 30 minutes (which would be 350 miles on a 500-mile battery) when attached to a “Tesla Semi Charger.”
That charging rate is a notable reduction on previous claims that the Semi would be able to charge to 400 miles of range in around 30 minutes.
Tesla isn’t above changing specs for vehicles that were announced years ago, of course. The company did at least sweeten the deal by sharing new video of the Semi driving and connecting to a charger, while a new render of the cab also gives potential drivers a new look at what they can expect to be sitting in once deliveries finally take place. Tesla first announced the Semi five years ago.
