Tesla has been teasing the launch of some sort of robotaxi service for years now, and we might finally be closer than ever to it being available.
Tesla has sent out invitations to a new event titled “We, Robot,” which leaves little to the imagination.
While that invitation doesn’t confirm explicitly that this is going to be the launch of the robotaxi service, it doesn’t take too much of a leak to assume that’s what’s in the cards. CEO Elon Musk has often called a future self-driving vehicle the Tesla Robotaxi in the past, while there have also been claims that owners could essentially rent out their own cars to act as robotaxis when not in use.
The Tesla event will take place on October 10 after originally being slated for an August date before it was pushed back. Now, investors and members of the press will be looking forward to next month in the hopes that we will finally learn more about Tesla’s plans. Tesla’s invitation asked people to “Join us for We, Robot – our official unveiling of the future of autonomy.”
There are still plenty of questions surrounding the robotaxi, not least how much it will cost to use and how big it will actually be. Expectations are that it will be relatively small, but we shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to get answers to those questions.
