Tesla has made changes to the way that it predicts the range of its vehicles by taking more information into account. The change comes via a new software update that is now available for installation.
The new update, version number 2022.20.7, takes things like the amount of energy being used by accessories like phones as well as the tire pressure and even the air density to allow cars to make for a better range prediction.
wow 2022.20.7 seems to go into insane details to improve range predictions.
Even tire pressure is taken into account (amongst many-many other extra variables just added). Also takes into account energy loss to phone charging and 12V accessories, air density, battery heat/cool,…
Tesla first began to take environmental factors into consideration back in 2018 with data like elevation and weather being fed into its algorithm. This latest change is an iteration on that, with the data shared by a Tesla hacker on Twitter.
Predicting range accurately is beneficial for a variety of reasons, and not just because it means that drivers know when they need to charge.
More accurate predictions make for more confidence among drivers, allowing them to better plan trips without the concern that they might run out of juice because of an incorrect range prediction.
