Tesla is rumored to be readying a newly refreshed version of its Model 3 electric vehicle, dubbed Highland. Now, new images have appeared online that seem to show the car in prototype form.
The new model is expected to be designed to improve the cost and efficiency of manufacturing rather than make drastic changes to the way the vehicle will look.
The prototype, spotted in Santa Cruz, California, shows a car covered in camouflage as well as manufacturer’s plates.
Because of the covers placed on the car it’s difficult to see what has changed in this new design, but it doesn’t look to be much — if anything. That would tie into the expectation that the changes are more for Tesla’s benefit than that of buyers.
That isn’t to say that no differences have been spotted, however. Some have pointed to what appears to be a camera in one corner of the front-right headlight, potentially designed to help with Tesla’s Full Self-Driving technology.
It’s very difficult to see in the images and it is of course covered with a sheet, so it could be almost anything. We’ll need to wait for better images, or a proper announcement from Tesla, to be sure.
tesla is expected to release this updated refresh at some point next year, likely toward the end of 2023.
