Tesla has announced a new version of the Model 3 electric vehicle with almost 400 miles of range. But the problem is you aren’t allowed to actually buy the thing.
The new Model 3 is only available to businesses in the United Kingdom. The Model 3 normally comes in three variants; Standard Range RWD, Long Range AWD, and Performance AWD.
But now there’s a special Model 3 just for businesses with just a single motor rather than the dual-motor configuration you normally see on long-range versions of the Model 3.
Karen Bowen, senior key account manager at Tesla, announced on LinkedIn this week as noted by Electrek.
To accelerate the electrification of Europe’s B2B fleet, we are introducing a new Model 3 variant that caters to the needs of our commercial customers. Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive combines a segment-leading range of 394 miles (WLTP) with highest charging convenience, at an entry-level price point from £46,990.
The same report notes that “at £46,990 (~$58,500 USD), it’s £4,000 more expensive than the base Standard Range and £4,000 cheaper than the regular Long Range AWD.”
Deliveries are expected to begin in June although it isn’t clear whether businesses need to order a particular number of cars before they can get involved. Bowen said that the vehicle is now available to order via Tesla’s B2B channels with deliveries expected to begin in June.
