Tesla’s Model 3 has historically shipped with a wooden trim but that’s now thought to be changing. A new report claims that a non-woven fabric is in the works for future versions of the car.
With wooden trims often used to try and make some cars appear more premium, it’s something that many carmakers have started to move away from in favor of other materials in an attempt to cut costs and reduce their impact on the environment.
Now, Notateslaapp.com says that things are changing based on a report by Chris Zheng. The outlet says its own sources have also confirmed the change.
Tesla is replacing the wood trim in the Model 3, and possibly other models with a non-woven fabric that will be significantly cheaper to produce. The move is in line with the company’s efforts to reduce the costs of its vehicles and make them more affordable and environmentally friendly.
It’s also thought that Tesla is considering offering different colors for those who want them, with more customization options also thought to be a possibility.
While the Model 3 is the vehicle discussed here, it’s also thought that other cars in the lineup could follow suit. The Model Y is perhaps the most likely candidate here given the fact the two cars share many characteristics. There doesn’t appear to be a hard timeframe for these changes, however.
