Telsa is going to bring the Grok AI assistant to its electric cars in the future, CEO Elon Musk has said. Grok comes from the xAI company which is also one of Musk’s companies.
The new assistant is similar to ChatGPT and Musk says that it’s going to be built into Tesla’s vehicles moving forward.
The project will reportedly allow Grok to run natively without the need to connect to the internet and have the AI run there, as is the case with ChatGPT and other Large Language Models today.
As for Grok itself, xAI says that it is modeled after the AI in a famous book.
Grok is an AI modeled after the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, so intended to answer almost anything and, far harder, even suggest what questions to ask! Grok is designed to answer questions with a bit of wit and has a rebellious streak, so please don’t use it if you hate humor!
It remains to be seen exactly how the chat-based AI assistant will be used in Tesla vehicles moving forward, but now that it’s been confirmed by Musk it seems likely the company will push forward with plans. However, how useful it will be is anyone’s guess. Users will hope for a faster rollout than the Full Self-Driving beta that continues to cost thousands of dollars despite its unfinished state.
