Tesla is now the world’s most valuable car brand with a value of $66.2 billion according to new numbers. That represents a 44% increase over the previous figures and sees the company surpass Mercedes-Benz and Toyota.
The numbers also represent a huge increase over Tesla’s worth before the pandemic began in 2020, as EV-Edition reports based on figures shared by BrandFinance.
Tesla’s brand is now worth over five times more than its pre-pandemic valuation, surpassing Toyota, last year’s leader, whose brand value has declined by 18% to USD52.5 billion, and Mercedes-Benz, the runner-up from last year, whose brand value has fallen by 3% to USD58.8 billion.
It’s said that increasing brand recognition in recent years has helped Tesla take the top spot as people turn more and more to electric vehicles.
However, it’ll remain to be seen whether Tesla can continue this upward trajectory for years go come — both Mercedes-Benz and Toyota are huge institutions the likes of which don’t tend to just fall by the wayside.
Tesla still has some new products to get to market over the next year or two as well, suggesting that its brand worth could increase yet further. The Cybertruck is expected to begin production later in 2023 with the Roadster still to come at some point after that.
