After first announcing that it would start to ship yoke steering wheels there were obvious questions about a few changes that brought with it, not least what it meant for the horn.
Tesla turned the horn into a touch-sensitive button on the yoke which wile functional, was never fully adopted or liked by drivers. Now, Tesla has finally backtracked.
The result is a new yoke steering wheel that has been added to the lineup and is starting to ship on the Model S And Model X electric vehicles. The change means that the horn has now been moved to its normal place at the center of the wheel and is of course a physical button like those that drivers have been using for decades.
One X user confirmed the new yoke in a post that included a photo while adding that there is “more stitching and overall better build quality” when compared to the yokes that were shipped previously.
Unfortunately, there are still no stalks on these yokes which means that things like turn signals are still buttons rather than where people might expect them to be. However, Tesla isn’t the only company to have gone that route of course, and it’s likely people will get used to the change eventually.
As for the horn, there’s little doubt that the change is a good one and people who need to find the horn in an emergency situation will now be able to do so using muscle memory rather than hunting for it on their wheel.
