Tesla has today announced the “CyberVault home charging service package.” The package is only available in China at the time of writing and comes after it was teased on Chinese social media.
The product is Cybertruck-inspired, as the name suggests, and appears to be a box designed to play host to a Tesla Wall Connector, as Electrek notes.
Here’s what Tesla has to say about its CyberVault.
The Tesla CyberVault charging pile is tailor-made for the Chinese market. It weighs 13 kilograms and adopts the Cybertruck design language. The product is integrated with a protective outer box and charging equipment to meet customers’ needs for safety, economy, beauty and durability.
The whole thing is sold as a package, including installation. It’ll sell for ¥5,500, which is equivalent to around $800 depending on the time of day you check.
It remains to be seen whether the CyberVault will go on sale internationally or indeed why it exists considering it’s essentially a box for a charger. But if you need a home charger and also like that CyberTruck look, it’s pretty difficult to go wrong. Especially when, as Electrek notes, getting a Level 2 home charger installed in the United States normally costs north of $1,000.
As for the Cybertruck itself, we’re still waiting for that to make an appearance on roads with mass production thought to be happening later this year.
