The iPhone Dev-Team has just updated the ultrasn0w unlocking tool for iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G. This new version has lots of new tweaks added for performance and stability improvement. It will also help with standby battery life incase if your phone is draining the battery too fast. The compatibility though remains the same. It will work with all iPhones up to iOS 4.0.1 with baseband 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 and 05.13.04.
As promised, the iPhone Dev-Team has released the carrier unlocking tool called Ultrasn0w for US based iPhone 4 users who are stuck with AT&T network. For those of you who don’t know, carrier unlock for US iPhone 4s required complete rewrite of ultrasn0w software because of the new baseband OS present in iPhone 4.
The much awaited all iOS device jailbreak was released earlier today. Dubbed as JailbreakMe 2.0 Star, this tool which runs right under iOS’ Safari browser can jailbreak iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPod touch 3G / 2G and iPad. Once you are done with the jailbreak, you must be wondering what about the unlock? Well, iPhone 3GS and 3G users can unlock their jailbroken devices right now on iOS 4.0.1 / 4.0 on any baseband with existing version of Ultrasn0w. Simply follow the step by step guide posted here to unlock your iPhone so that you can use it with any carrier you like. It is supported on all basebands upto 05.13.04.
The iPhone Dev-Team Members MuscleNerd and Planetbeing has confirmed that even though the unlock for iPhone 4 with ultrasn0w is ready and all, they will still do thorough testing in the next 48 hours to make sure everything is working before it is released to public. This is what they said on their respective Twitter accounts
iOS 4.0.1 was released earlier today for iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G. Fortunately for all iPhone unlockers, the baseband wasn’t upgraded from 05.13.04, which means you can unlock your iPhone even on the latest iOS 4.0.1 firmware. Since currently there is no jailbreak tool available for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), and the current jailbreak tools for iPhone 3GS (old bootrom) are not compatible with iOS 4.0.1, so the only device which can currently be jailbroken and unlocked on iOS 4.0.1 is iPhone 3G.
iOS 4.0.1 has just been released by Apple for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G to fix the reception issues which has been problematic for most iPhone 4 users since its launch last month. iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G users who currently rely on an unlock MUST STAY from iOS 4.0.1 until any further notice. Updating to iOS 4.1 might result in update of baseband, which will potentially lock your phone. You wont be able to unlock it until a new exploit is found again.
Now that iPhone 4 has been launched in US, and in some European countries, with lots more to follow in July and August. What everyone is obviously waiting for is to jailbreak and unlock the iPhone 4. Since iPhone 4 comes unlocked in almost all countries except for United States, what everyone really wants is a jailbreak, which requires a new exploit as Apple has already patched all the holes in the most recent firmware release, including the one used by Spirit.
The official ultrasn0w unlock is now available for iOS 4 which works on all basebands including 05.13.04 and 05.12.01 on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G. Since there is no jailbreak available yet for iPhone 3GS with new bootrom, you cant unlock it as even though the baseband is unlockable. This is because unlock relies on jailbreak. So if you have an iPhone 3GS with new bootrom and you rely on an unlock, it is best to avoid iOS 4 (formerly iPhone OS 4) for now.
We have already seen iOS 4.0 Beta 4 (formerly iPhone OS 4) being successfully jailbroken and unlocked on iPhone 3GS and 3G using ultrasn0w and blacksn0w. But for this final release of iOS 4, both the tools are likely going to get an upgrade soon to make them full compatible. The iPhone Dev Team has already promised a full carrier unlocking solution sometime this month for 05.12.01 baseband. Geohot might also update blacksn0w unlock for this latest firmware, which has already been successfully ported to the Beta 4 of iOS 4.
We have been hearing about this one aren't we? but what we have now is final confirmation. According to the member of iPhone Dev Team, full carrier unlocks for iPhone OS 3.1.3, and iPhone OS 4.0 will be released this month once Apple has released both the final version of iPhone OS 4, and the next iPhone 4G / HD.
