You’d think that Steve Jobs would be running the latest unreleased version of iPhone OS on his iPhone but according to an email received by a 9to5Mac user from Steve Jobs, he seems to be running iPhone OS 3.1.2. His iPhone is listed as iPhone Mail 7D11 in the email header which means that he is running iPhone 3.1.2 instead of iPhone 3.1.3, let alone running the latest unreleased firmware.
If you accidently updated to the stock iPhone OS 3.1.3 from iTunes and are locked out, you maybe in with a luck as an unlocking tool is said to be out soon. George Hotz has confirmed via his twitter account that he has a working exploit which can unlock the latest 05.12.01 baseband which Apple bundled when they released iPhone 3.1.3 for iPhone and iPod touch earlier this month. While no ETA was given, judging by his tweet, it may not be too long before we get the updated version of blacksn0w which can unlock 05.12.01 baseband on iPhone 3.1.3 firmware.
The guy behind Sn0wbreeze – the PwnageTool for Windows has just released a new tool dubbed f0recast for iPhone OS 3.1.3 firmware. Sn0wbreeze 3.1.3 V1.5.1 has been quietly released. This minor update brings Youtube fix which was hampering users in the last release. Also added in this version is more speed and reliability. Unfortunately, Blacksn0w unlock for iPhone 3GS is still crippled in this version. If you have iPhone 2G, 3G or iPhone touch 1G/2G, you can use sn0wbreeze to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3.
Let me clear this upfront. The following instructions will only help downgrade iPhone 3G which is currently on iPhone OS 3.1.3 with 05.12.01 baseband and older bootloader 05.08. This wont work with iPhone 3GS.
