Sixty seconds seems like a relatively small period of time, if you asked me what I believe I could achieve in a sixty second time frame I would probably admit to it being not very much. So just what does happen around the world in one single minute?
I remember back in October when Apple announced the release details for the iPhone 4S and iOS 5. There had been so much speculation about iOS 5, and as a developer I had been using the development build for quite some time before the official release so I pretty much knew what to expect. However, as a person who generally gets each new device as soon as it is launched I was on the edge on my office chair when the section about the 4S began.
By nature, I am not a betting man. However, If I was I would be willing to bet that the majority of people reading this would have in no way suspected to see a trailer containing an evil version of Apples new personal assistant Siri. I would go even further in my assumptions by stating that no one would ever expect a Siri related post that draws comparison to the 1983 superhero movie Superman 3.
In todays day and age it isn't uncommon to see products belonging to large brands appearing unashamedly throughout Hollywood blockbusters. The general public refer to this type of advertising as product placement, but a more common name is embedded marketing which is when a well known branded product is placed in a context usually outside of the advertisement sphere like a movie, music video or a television show.
Well folks, it doesn't really get anymore random, weird or indeed wonderful than this. Coming out of the Music Hack Day 2011 in London, this video shows one iPhone 4S and Siri laying down some beats ala Notorious B.I.G.. The track of choice? Hypnotize, and we're sure you'll be hypnotized by the performance, too.
While we sit here with our iPads and iPhones, it is easy to forget that things were not always this way. We didn't always have the iPhone 4S with its super fast CPU and lightening integration with iOS. In fact, the name 'iOS' is something that only came around relatively recently itself.
There's certainly a perverse pleasure in destroying electronic gadgets. Although old computers and CRT monitors falling off office blocks is a great stress alleviator, watching an iPad 2 disintegrate in a pool of molten lava is enough to put any ardent techie on edge.
Even if you fall on the Android side of the smartphone divide it is hard to argue - without coming across as a raving crazy person - that there isn't something a little crazy about the shear number of different Android devices out there. Be they from the likes of LG, HTC, Samsung, Motorola or anyone else, there are so many that naming each and every one of them just isn't getting any easier.
The ongoing spat between Samsung and Apple is turning into one of those rather depressing proses where an allegiance breaks down, descending into all-out war.
We all know that Apple has struggled with knock-off devices for a long, long time. Fake iPods first began appearing in China long before the iPhone and iPad were announced, or even thought of. Now though, even the touch-screen loveliness of Apple's flagship products find themselves being copied and sold on the black market.
