MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev-Team has just posted about an update of Redsn0w which fixes SMS and data issues that some of you may be having with iPhone OS 4 jailbreak. Official change log of Redsn0w 0.9.5b2 is as follows.
Similar to the hack which enabled multitasking on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G running iPhone OS 4 Beta, the following step by step instructions will help you enable Wallpapers support which like multitasking, was locked down by Apple for the mentioned devices. You will need to be jailbroken on iPhone OS 4.0 before you follow the steps below.
You’d think that Steve Jobs would be running the latest unreleased version of iPhone OS on his iPhone but according to an email received by a 9to5Mac user from Steve Jobs, he seems to be running iPhone OS 3.1.2. His iPhone is listed as iPhone Mail 7D11 in the email header which means that he is running iPhone 3.1.2 instead of iPhone 3.1.3, let alone running the latest unreleased firmware.
A group of hackers are claiming to have found an exploit which will jailbreak iPhone 3GS with new bootrom and it will be untethered. The exploit appears to work not only in iPhone 3GS models with new bootrom, but also in all iPhone and iPod touch models.
Let me clear this upfront. The following instructions will only help downgrade iPhone 3G which is currently on iPhone OS 3.1.3 with 05.12.01 baseband and older bootloader 05.08. This wont work with iPhone 3GS.
The iPhone Dev-Team has just confirmed (sort of.) that they are working on a new version of PwnageTool which will enable iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users to jailbreak iPhone 3.1.3 firmware without having to update their baseband. For those of you who don't know, PwnageTool, like Sn0wbreeze is an iPhone jailbreaking tool which creates custom .ipsw files without the upgraded baseband.
George Hotz (aka geohot) has confirmed via his twitter account today that his blackra1n and blacksn0w tools are currently not compatible with the latest iPhone 3.1.3 firmware. This new firmware brings 05.12.01 baseband for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G which restricts jailbreaking and unlocking on newer devices.
This is a guide geared towards iPhone users with Mac OS X. The steps are exactly same as they are on a Windows system. You can find the Windows version of the guide here.
The newly released iPhone 3.1.3 firmware for iPhone and iPod touch updates baseband to 05.12.01 on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G, hence making it impossible for these two devices to get unlocked using blackra1n with blacksn0w. Fortunately for iPhone 2G (the first generation iPhone with EDGE) users, the baseband remains intact. The iPhone DevTeam has just confirmed that their newly released jailbreaking tool called redsn0w 0.9.3 can be used to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 2G on firmware 3.1.3, provided that you have jailbroken it previously at least once.
The infamous iPhone DevTeam is now back with a newer version of redsn0w which brings support for IPCC tethering hack for iPhone 3G and 3GS only. This IPCC tethering hack enables you to install carrier bundles that aren't officially signed by Apple on the latest iPhone 3.1.2 firmware. With this, you can connect your iPhone (3G and 3GS only) with your PC or a Mac in a way which enables your PC/Mac to connect to Internet via 3G network on your iPhone.
