The mobile industry is a collection of platforms through which many genres of game have thrived over the past few years, and tower defense titles have certainly found a loving home among casual gamers. No TD title has been more popular than Electronic Arts' Plants Vs. Zombies, though, and with the sequel to the original having recently been released to Android in certain parts of the world, today, it appears to be available worldwide. Full details, as well as the download link, can be found after the break.
Long gone are the days when portable gaming was a matter of only Game Boy and PlayStation Portable, owing to the power houses that smartphones have become. Be it iOS and Android, both platforms and the devices running them back with solid enough hardware to give a satisfactory, serious gaming experience no matter where you are. That being said, certain gaming titles on both platforms are more coveted than others, and Plants vs. Zombies 2 is one of them. Plants vs. Zombies 2 for iOS was released to the joy of users worldwide, but Android users were left waiting. Then, last week, we brought you news that Plant vs. Zombies 2 was available finally on Android only for users based in China. Now, it seems, EA has finally brought it for everyone out there sporting an Android device.
We have Angry Birds, we have Temple Run and we have Plants vs. Zombies. Mobile platforms like Android and iOS have spawned other successful gaming franchises, but the aforementioned three are the hugely successful ones that immediately spring to mind. The initial success of the first Plants vs. Zombies game by PopCap paved the way for the recently released sequel, but there was a slight hitch, in that it was only pushed to the iOS App Store, which as you can imagine ruffled a few Android feathers. That problem has now been sort of rectified by the developers.
It’s here - the zombie apocalypse is upon us! If this announcement troubles you at all, fret not, for all you need are trusty old mushrooms and some pea shooters to deal with the mayhem. That’s right, PopCap’s much anticipated Plants vs. Zombies 2 has just been officially released worldwide for iOS devices, and even better, is available for free like we mentioned before.
While physics-based puzzlers are perhaps the most popular variety of mobile games, a certain army of tower defense fans may have a case to refute such a claim. From Fieldrunners to Bloons TD, there are perhaps hundreds of these addictive strategy titles available on the App Store, but few have reached the level of popularity of Plants Vs. Zombies. Today, the sequel to the original, which has naturally been entitled Plants Vs. Zombies 2, has become available at the Australian and New Zealand App Stores, and although the U.S. / worldwide rollouts tend to follow shortly thereafter, it looks as though the rest of us won't be seeing the game just yet.
