Released just three days ago, Microsoft’s full-3D motion sensing doohickey - the Kinect - has been hacked!
Ever wondered how the motion-sensing thingamajig from Microsoft - the Kinect - detects motion so accurately and quickly? Well, even if you didn’t, you’ll be a little surprised at how it works.
Research firm IDC has published a press release in which they have predicted that Microsoft’s motion sensing Kinect will outsell Sony’s motion-sensing controller Move by half to a full million units.
According to Wikipedia, Augmented Reality is a term used for live direct or indirect view of a real-world physical environment whose elements are augmented (read: enhanced / given more information about graphically) using computer-generated imagery. It’s basically what you see when you look through the viewfinder on Iron Man or Samus Aran’s helmet. Apps like Layar, Google Sky Map (Android) and Wikitude World Browser (iPhone) already make use of this technology.
Kinect for Xbox 360 will hit shelves this November. Microsoft has already sent out beta units to testers so that they can try out the Kinect hardware and the new software update with Kinect support which will drop this fall as a free update for all existing Xbox 360 owners. Folks involved in the beta program for the Kinect were kind enough to slip out some videos showing off the new Dashboard. Videos after the break.
Microsoft has just announced the pricing scheme of the Xbox 360 Slim + Kinect bundle. It costs an appropriate-but-still-slightly-expensive $399 in the United States and £300 in the UK.
Last week at E3, Microsoft refreshed its Xbox 360 lineup by releasing the all new super quiet Xbox 360 S. This is basically a 250GB model with refreshed design; includes built-in WiFi-N, a dedicated port for Kinect (formerly Project Natal), and more. This is by far the sexiest Xbox to date! And now, Microsoft has confirmed a new SKU for Xbox 360 S, along with Kinect bundles which will have Kinect motion sensor included as part of the whole package.
The wait is finally over! Microsoft today at their E3 event has announced Kinect for Xbox 360. Microsoft Kinect was previously known as Project Natal and was first shown off at E3 2009. With Kinect for Xbox 360, you are the controller in extraordinary new ways, with full body play, arms, legs, feet and hands. “It’s so natural, so intuitive that technology evaporates, letting the natural magic in all of us shine through. All you need to do is jump in”.
Following the leaks, Microsoft decided to officially take the wraps off the new title for Project Natal, which is now dubbed as “Kinect” for Xbox 360 ahead of their E3 media event. If you have been living under a rock or something and don’t know what it is all about: Kinect for Xbox 360 (formerly Project Natal) introduces controller-free gaming with which you take full control of the games by simply moving around, jumping, punching and kicking or whatever you feel like doing. It will detect almost anything you do! You can even move through the beautiful interface by swiping your hands back and forth ala Minority Report style!
