The Apple media event has been confirmed, the date is on our diaries and now we sit patiently to see what the next six days bring us in terms of news and possible insight into what Tim Cook and his team will bring us when they adorn the stage of the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. It's all but guaranteed that the new sixth-generation iPhone will be the main focal point of the media event, but there is still a strong possibility that we will be treated to a couple of new iPods or even the mysterious iPad Mini that we have been hearing so much about.
Although Apple has now officially confirmed that there will indeed be a media event taking place on September 12th at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, we can all breathe a heavy sigh of relief and get our credit cards ready for whatever the company announces on that day. It's widely expected that Apple will introduce us to the sixth-generation iPhone, but considering the rumor that we will see up to eight new Apple products released between now and the end of October, the possibility still remains that the Cupertino giants could announce a couple of new iPods on Wednesday or even the new iPad Mini that we have all been expecting. The chances for the latter actually happening are extremely low, though.

Earlier this week, reliable source John Gruber suggested Apple would likely hold two separate media events for its upcoming product range, and Jim Dalrymple - famous for his "yep" responses to Apple rumors - appears to agree with Gruber's sentiments.
Rumors and reports of a smaller, more portable iPad have been in the air since 2010, but their frequency has increased significantly this year thanks to the success of smaller, cheaper tablets like the Amazon Kindle Fire and Google Nexus 7.
The iPhone is easily the most anticipated device to be arriving from Apple in the coming months, although the purported smaller iPad, or iPad Mini as it is being referred, is hot on its heels. The device, we are led to believe, will counter the smaller tablets cropping up in the tablet market, including the cheap-yet-powerful Google ASUS Nexus 7.
The murmurs and speculation with regards to Apple's entertainment of a smaller iPad has fluctuated over the course of the past six months or so, and although the fruit company dominates the tablet market with an iron fist, bloggers, analysts and commentators seem generally convinced Apple will release a downscaled tablet to see off a lingering threat.
Now that we are officially into the month of August and are pretty much certain that Apple is planning on holding a media event during the first two weeks of September, I think we can officially start looking forward to what they might have in store for us. The event is looking like it will take place on September 12th with speculation centered around the possibilities of Tim Cook and his team introducing us to the new iPhone as well as a couple of new iPods and the much talked about iPad Mini. The jury is still out on whether the sixth-generation iPhone will make an appearance, but the rest seems a distinct possibility.
