After the successful launch of the iPhone 6 and the jumbo-sized iPhone 6 Plus Apple could potentially be planning to bring additional product updates to the market during the month of October.
In the run-up to the announcement of the iPhone 6, particularly during the latter stages, it was suspected that Apple would also launch the new iPad Air. These notions seemed a little afoot, particularly given that we're accustomed to October iPad announcements, and when said iPad showcasing did not occur, we immediately knew that Apple was likely to be sticking with tradition. Now, a new report has surfaced suggesting that the refresh to both iPad models will be unveiled on October 21st, with OS X Yosemite 10.10 also rolling out for Mac on the very same day.
The iPhone 6 may be the hottest topic in tech circles right now, but even though the annual dose of iPhone Fever has taken a stronghold once more, we've also the small matter of the iPad refresh to contend with. Only yesterday, we heard that the next-gen iPad Air could double up on RAM to 2GB, with certain 'pro' features apparently set to arrive with iOS 8.1 early next year, and now, a new parts leak has presented us with a close-up look at some of the device's internals.
Although the blogosphere is currently inundated with news of the next-gen iPhone 6, it's also suspected that the iPad line-up will be in receipt of its customary refresh later on this year. Aside from the more obvious matter of the improved processor -- both the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 are expected to adopt the all-new Apple 8 SoC -- both of the fruit company's flagship slates will also benefit from an improved Touch ID fingerprint sensor, in what is already stacking up as a fairly substantial hardware upgrade. Now, it has emerged that the larger of the two Apple slabs may be kitted out with 2GB of RAM, and given that the next-gen Retina mini is expected to remain at 1GB, it'll help to give the larger, more prominent model the technical edge over its smaller cousin.
The leaks just keep on coming, this time of the supposed iPad Air 2. With all the attention very much on the iPhone 6 at this point, it's easy to forget that we should only be a few months away from a new suite of iPads, with the iPad Air 2 possibly the most eagerly anticipated.
The latest rumor related to the ever intriguing world of Apple hardware is suggesting that the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will be the only new device ready for launch this September. The Cupertino giant is expected to announce a media event to take place in September, with the intention being to launch new mobile hardware later on in the month. If the latest leaks coming out of the Far East turn out to be true, then production of the larger 5.5-inch iPhone and all new iPad hardware could be delayed until September at the earliest.
Although we have a fairly good idea of what Apple has in the offing with regards to software thanks to the recent announcement of iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 Yosemite, we're still very much in the dark as to what new devices the Cupertino will roll out later this year. The headlines may have been dominated with speculation pertaining to the likes of the iWatch and iPhone 6, but both the iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display are expected to be treated to a customary refresh. Today, a new video takes a mockup of the next-gen iPad Air and compares it with the current model, and although the changes appear to be subtle, we can expect the already-svelte device to become even thinner this time around.
Apple's iPhone 5s offered many new features and perks over the preceding iPhone 5, and the most obvious - aside from the gold color option - was the introduction of the Touch ID fingerprint sensor. Like many marquee features before it, Touch ID has been exclusive to the iPhone 5s for the duration of its tenure as Apple's flagship, but with the iPhone 6 now looming, it seems almost certain that the fingerprint sensor will also be added to the Cupertino's iPad roster. As well as bringing Touch ID to the iPad Air 2 and Retina iPad mini 3 later this year, it is also being reported that Apple is making some design changes for a more durable, reliable experience moving forward.
There's no doubt that the iPad Air, released late last year by Apple, was the best upgrade to the company's tablet line-up since the original slate hit the scene back in 2010. With its slick, iPad mini-like form factor and high-end specs, it seemed miraculous that the Cupertino company had managed to squeeze so much hardware into such a svelte package, and now, its forthcoming successor, the iPad Air 2, is apparently about to go into production.
Those hoping to see some exciting new hardware revelations at WWDC were left sorely disappointed as Cook, Federighi and co. waxed poetic about the new software features of iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 Yosemite. But just because nothing was unveiled at the conference's keynote, this isn't to say that some of the touted products aren't on their way, and having delved the new beta of Xcode 6, one Apple enthusiast has already spotted signs that newer, larger iPhones and iPads could be on their way.
