We have waited nearly three months in total, and A5 owners have had to sit in envy for nearly four weeks as they watch their A4 device friends enjoy an untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak, but the wait is nearly over. The release of the Corona A5 jailbreak is close and I can almost taste its liberating goodness.
The long wait is nearly over folks, and that elusive iOS 5 jailbreak for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S users looks to be only a matter of days away.
Up until six days ago, it had been an amazing 517 days since legendary hacker, PlanetBeing, had last treated his fans to a Tweet. He broke that silence on the 11th January with the revelation that, with the help of Cydia founder Jay Freeman, he had managed to escape the Apple Sandbox. For those who haven't been following the long running A5 jailbreak saga, PlanetBeing was drafted in by developer Pod2g to be an integral member of the jailbreaking 'Dream Team'.
The cat and mouse game between the engineers at Apple and the people that provide us with jailbreaks is turning into more of a war than a game. For as long as I can remember, the production of a jailbreak for new devices and firmwares has always had stumbling blocks, but rarely has it thrown as many obstacles in the way as the current pursuit of the A5 jailbreak. We are only eight weeks away from the the iPad 2’s first birthday, and in that time we have only seen an untethered jailbreak possible on iOS 4.3.3 using JailbreakMe 3.0.
Apple's decision to make Siri an iPhone 4S-only affair caused much consternation amongst iPhone 4 owners as well as those owning an iPad 2.
I woke up this morning, collected my iPhone from my bedside table and opened up my favorite Twitter application to browse through my timeline, just like I do every morning. Some tweet I skip past, some I briefly chuckle at, and others I take a vested interest in for one reason or another.
The iOS community got a belated present two days after Christmas with the release of the untethered jailbreak for all A4 devices running iOS 5.0.1. The release of the jailbreak represented nearly two months of hard work and research by pod2g followed by efficient and swift work from the iPhone Dev and Chronic Dev Teams to package the jailbreak up for public consumption.
Although much of the developing and modding is made as simple as possible for those not particularly adept to the ins and outs of iOS, issues can often arise, and what is often a smooth process can sometimes be a little tricky with a hurdle or two in the way.
There is no doubt that due to the highly successful nature of their products, Apple will continue to release next generations of their iDevices for years to come. The question is not if we’ll be seeing an iPad 3 and iPhone 5 in the future, but the when. Now thanks to some new info, we can shed a little light into the latter, at least as far as the iPad 3 goes.
Apple's iPad was famously called 'magical' by more than a few of Apple's executive team, and after using one for 18 months, it's hard to disagree.
