According to a report out of Thailand, two of Apple's main iPhone manufacturers have been hiring new staff en masse in preparation for the launch of the new iPhone 6. Foxconn has apparently beefed up personnel to the tune of over 100,000 workers, while Pegatron - a more recent addition to Apple's list of manufacturing partners - has also upped its numbers by almost one-third.
With September drawing ever nearer, the iPhone 6 bandwagon is rolling on nicely. The expected announcement of the next-generation iPhone may be just three months away, but there is still quite a lot of information to be leaked before we know for sure what we will be lining up for. The smart money is on at least one new iPhone being released at that time, with another coming weeks later. The two new phones are expected to feature larger screens than Apple's past offerings, which makes this particular launch even more interesting than usual.
We've been seeing images of what are claimed to be the two new iPhone 6 models for a while now, and some have even cropped up in videos. What has been severely lacking though, until now, is a video comparing both the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 to existing devices made by other manufacturers. YouTube channel TechSmartt has now changed that by publishing a seven-minute video in which we see the unannounced iPhones compared to other iOS products as well as, most interestingly, a Galaxy Note 3.
Apple is notoriously secretive when it comes to preparing for a major product launch, but despite the company's best efforts, we've an ever-growing dossier of information on what's next out of the smartphone department at Cupertino HQ. New snaps have emerged showing more mockups of the Space Gray variant of the "iPhone 6" in all of its glory, with one comparing the handset to both the current flagship iPhone 5s and the HTC One (M8).
Apple's iPhone 6 has been leaked dozens of times through mockups, and although we're fairly sure as to the device's eventual form factor, it's always difficult to establish what reported information is factual and what is perhaps a spin on the truth.
It is largely reckoned that Apple will be rolling out two significantly larger iPhone 6 models later on this year - a 4.7-inch version and a more sizeable edition packing a 5.5-inch display. It has been mentioned on several occasions that the bigger iPhone 6 will cost $100 more, and a new analyst report has corroborated this notion while also adding that consumers are more than willing to bear the additional cost for the corresponding bump in display real estate.
We're still a good few months from finding out precisely what Apple has planned for the iPhone 6, but with such a high volume of leaks and reports having surfaced over the past couple of months, we have a fairly good idea of its form factor and features. As well as once again underlining the notion that the device will be considerably larger than any smartphone Apple has released until now, a new report notes that the handset will finally delve into the uncharted realms of NFC, as well as offering wireless charging and improved LTE.
Now that WWDC is over, we can get back to wondering what hardware Apple will announce this year. It's a given than the iPhone 6 will be brought to market towards the last quarter of 2014, but what it will contain and how it will look is still up for debate.
Now that we're officially less than a week away from WWDC, all the attention has rightly turned towards what Apple will announce at the event. With the Beats acquisition finally announced recently, that also means that it's one less rumor to go around, leaving WWDC to get all the attention.
Apple's Touch ID technology may currently be something that is only enjoyed by those carrying an iPhone 5s, but according to the latest report coming out of KGI Research, that should be about to change.
