After months of silence, Geohot has finally published a new blog post in which he talks about iPhone 4 jailbreak situation, limera1n, and Pwned4life exploit which he recently talked about at the Nuit Du Hack conference in Paris. According to his latest blog post, he has managed to jailbreak his iPhone 4 the day it got delivered to him by mail. This is what he writes on his blog:
Now that iPhone 4 has been launched in US, and in some European countries, with lots more to follow in July and August. What everyone is obviously waiting for is to jailbreak and unlock the iPhone 4. Since iPhone 4 comes unlocked in almost all countries except for United States, what everyone really wants is a jailbreak, which requires a new exploit as Apple has already patched all the holes in the most recent firmware release, including the one used by Spirit.
The million dollar question, how long before the new iPhone 4 is going to be jailbroken and unlocked? Well we already know that the iPhone Dev Team has already announced that they are going to release an unlock which will work on the 05.12.01 baseband on all iPhones, provided they haven't upgraded to the latest 05.13 baseband. But since the new iPhone 4 will have the latest baseband, it will be a while before it gets fully jailbroken and unlocked. Another infamous iPhone hacker by the name of Geohot is also said to have a new bootrom exploit, which he has preserved for this new iPhone.
This will erupt lots of cries and disappointment but this was important to post as I know many of you have been really looking forward to it. The creator of Spirit has posted an update, “now” confirming that he is not going to release his jailbreak tool on Friday (tomorrow). Moreover, he has also deleted his “update” where he said that it was coming this Friday.
Well it now looks like Geohot is not going to release his jailbreaking bits for the iPhone and iPad anytime soon. According to some of his recent tweets, his tools are not ready for primetime use yet. What this probably means now is that he is not going to release blackra1n for untethered iPhone 3.1.3 jailbreak (as previously thought), iPhone OS 4 and iPad before the next-iPhone is out this summer.
I have just been tipped off on twitter about Limera1n.com – a domain which has been registered by the infamous iPhone hacker named George Hotz (aka geohot). The domain whois record for both blackra1n and limera1n shares same record and confirms that it has been registered by geohot on March 27. Whois record also reveals that it was last updated on April 13, almost effectively the same date when geohot successfully jailbroke iPhone OS 4 which makes it even more authentic. Though there is no confirmation about this by geohot himself.
P0sixninja – the guy behind greenpois0n has written a detailed post, explaining the current jailbreak situation, detailing on when we can finally expect the first jailbreak for iPhone 3.1.3/3.2, untethered for all the iDevices. His blog post clears out much of the confusions, that many of us are having regarding the uncertainty on release dates for iPhone 3.1.3/3.2 jailbreaking tools.
The infamous iPhone hacker George Hotz (aka Geohot) has finally managed to jailbreak the iPad. In a tweet posted today, he showed verbose mode running on his iPad.
Jailbreaking the iPhone has always been crucial, giving you access to a whole set of features, allowing you to install tons of useful apps which otherwise wouldn't have been possible, and most importantly, it also allows you to unlock your phone so that you can use it with any carrier. Apple of course patches all these loopholes in every new version of its OS which makes jailbreaking harder. But sooner or later, hackers have always managed to find new exploits which jailbreaks the iPhone on the latest firmware.
An independent French developer has come up with another tool to fix all iTunes 9.1 problems on blackra1n’d iPhones running iPhone 3.1.2 firmware. This tool, like BlackBreeze promises to fix all issues that you may be having with iTunes 9.1 and your iPhone, running on jailbroken iPhone 3.1.2.
