By now, most of you might have heard rumors about the iOS 4.0.1 firmware update which Apple is preparing to release tomorrow in order to fix the ongoing reception issue on iPhone 4. Even though the issue is most likely related to the hardware, the buzz is that Apple is preparing a software fix in order to avoid (Apple sold 1.5 million iPhone 4s on the first day) what could be the biggest recall in the history of consumer electronics.
TinyUmbrella has been updated to support the new iOS 4 on iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 2G/3G. iPad is also supported but iOS 4 for iPad isn't available yet. iPhone 3G is not supported because you don't need to save SHSH blobs for iPhone 3G, and older iPod touch (non MC model).
We already did a complete step by step guide on how to save SHSH blobs (ECID SHSH) files of iPhone OS 3.1.3/3.1.2 and iPad OS 3.2 on Windows using AutoSHSH. But then I received lots feedback via email from users on OS X who couldn't figure out on how to save their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch SHSH files using a Mac.
Since Spirit jailbreak release is on the horizon, it is time to save your SHSH blobs so that you can jailbreak (by downgrading) your device again should Apple release a new firmware once the exploit is public. The following two paragraphs explains what are SHSH blobs and why is it important to save them now.
