Well well.. it was only a few days ago when MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev-Team confirmed that Comex will try and jailbreak iOS 4.1 using another userland exploit, if not then we will have to wait for a low-level bootrom exploit which may take longer to release. And now, while replying to a Twitter user, Comex has confirmed that the next iOS 4.x jailbreak may not come from him.
Next week, Apple will roll-out the new iOS 4.1 firmware for iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPad and iPod touch. This new firmware like iOS 4.0.2 will require another exploit for jailbreak as the loophole which was found in iOS 4.0.1 was quickly fixed by Apple in iOS 4.0.2. Comex will be on it once Apple releases the firmware to public early next week.
Most of you might have already know by now that an all-iOS device jailbreak called JailbreakMe 2.0 (Star) has been released. This new tool utilizes userland jailbreak vulnerability which enables it to jailbreak any iOS device on the latest firmware right from the Safari browser. More details on the jailbreak can be found here, and here.
The iPhone Dev-Team (Comex) has released JailbreakMe 2.0 (aka Star) which can jailbreak all iOS devices on their latest respective firmware like iOS 4.0 / 4.0.1. This does not work with iOS 4.1 Beta release. Since JailbreakMe 2.0 is a userland jailbreak, what this means is that you run it right in your iOS Safari browser to jailbreak the device. It cant get simpler than that !
Here is a quick update on the upcoming Comex’s jailbreak for iPhone 4 and iOS 4 / 4.0.1. It was only yesterday when we informed you all that Comex in an interview said that he is “almost” done with the jailbreak and now he is waiting for Saurik (the creator of Cydia) to complete the last bits which are required for the jailbreak.
Listening to an all-star podcast interview which involved iPhone devs like Comex, Planetbeing, Chpwn and iH8sn0w who are working on jailbreak and unlock scene, there was this question which the hosts asked the devs about when is the iPhone 4 and iOS 4.x jailbreak is expected to be out. While no specific release date was given, they did said that jailbreak is “pretty close to done”. They are now waiting for Saurik (creator of Cydia) to fix couple of loose ends before it is released. iPhone 4 unlock on the other hand is 100 percent done and is waiting for jailbreak to be released.
This will erupt lots of cries and disappointment but this was important to post as I know many of you have been really looking forward to it. Contrary to the popular believe that the new Spirit like all iOS device jailbreak will be released this weekend, the most vocal of all iPhone Dev-Team members MuscleNerd has confirmed that the new jailbreak wont be released today. This slight delay is because of some of the important iPhone 4 apps like FaceTime which are having issues after jailbreak. As MuscleNerd rightly said, there is no point in releasing a half-baked jailbreak tool which causes issues for the end-users.
Earlier today, the guy behind Spirit jailbreak tool came out with a series of tweets which hints towards the possibility of the “next version” of Spirit jailbreak tool coming very soon. We don’t know for sure if it will be called Spirit or Spirit v2, but what we know is that it is based on userland exploit, and that it will work with all iOS based devices including iPhone 4 on iOS 4.0.1 / 4.1 and iPad on iOS 3.2.1.
According to a latest tweet by a member of iPhone Dev Team, it looks like an all device jailbreak like Spirit and Blackra1n is ready, incl. for devices like iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPod touch 2G (MC models) and iPod touch 3G. This is going to be yet another userland jailbreak which we talked about earlier and is coming from none other than comex – the developer behind Spirit jailbreak tool for iPhone 3GS / 3G, iPad and iPod touch.
After porting preliminary release of Flash to iPhone, the guy behind Spirit untethered jailbreak tool for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch has now managed to run “real” Flash content right on the jailbroken Apple iPad. Dubbed as “Frash”, this is basically a port of Adobe Flash runtime for Android running on iPad using a compatibility layer. You can check out the video after the break to see it for yourself. It looks really promising, specially because its coming from non other than well known iPhone hacker named comex.
