George Francis Hotz is known for being among the group of people who first unlocked the iPhone to work on carriers other than those which Apple officially supported e.g. AT&T. He went to release jailbreaking tools like purplera1n, blackra1n, blacksn0w, a hack the PS3 and recently Limera1n which jailbreaks iOS 4.1.
We all know why Geohot left the whole jailbreak scene. He has already deleted his Twitter account, and his blog is set to invite-only viewing only. However before deleting his Twitter account, Geohot said to follow his friend Mike Cohen for all the future updates on jailbreak. He also said that “perhaps one of these days i’ll do a more formal goodbye”. And now it looks like he is probably going to make a comeback (perhaps for the last time?) with a new tool to jailbreak all iOS devices once and for all. This is what his friend mikecohenn wrote today:
iFixer is a new utility that will fix iTunes 9.1.x related errors when running Spirit Jailbreak for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, or blackra1n on Windows. The program basically has two buttons: “Make it Spirit!” and “Make it ra1n!”. Clicking on each of them will solve the respective iTunes 9.1.1 related issue.
Well it now looks like Geohot is not going to release his jailbreaking bits for the iPhone and iPad anytime soon. According to some of his recent tweets, his tools are not ready for primetime use yet. What this probably means now is that he is not going to release blackra1n for untethered iPhone 3.1.3 jailbreak (as previously thought), iPhone OS 4 and iPad before the next-iPhone is out this summer.
P0sixninja – the guy behind greenpois0n has written a detailed post, explaining the current jailbreak situation, detailing on when we can finally expect the first jailbreak for iPhone 3.1.3/3.2, untethered for all the iDevices. His blog post clears out much of the confusions, that many of us are having regarding the uncertainty on release dates for iPhone 3.1.3/3.2 jailbreaking tools.
The infamous iPhone hacker George Hotz (aka Geohot) has finally managed to jailbreak the iPad. In a tweet posted today, he showed verbose mode running on his iPad.
If you loved F0recast, you will love this one too. ToolJail is designed for iPhone newbie's to help them jailbreak and unlock their iPhone and iPod touch. It contains all the necessary jailbreak and unlock instructions, along with how-to’s on DFU and Recovery Mode, downgrading firmware, and direct download links for all the necessary tools required.
Gull1hack and Blacksn0w V2 by the Gull1hack team has now been confirmed as fake by the iPhone Dev-Team. A Release Candidate version of Gull1hack was released the other day which was supposed to jailbreak all iPhone and iPod touch devices on the new bootrom untethered.
If you accidently updated to the stock iPhone OS 3.1.3 from iTunes and are locked out, you maybe in with a luck as an unlocking tool is said to be out soon. George Hotz has confirmed via his twitter account that he has a working exploit which can unlock the latest 05.12.01 baseband which Apple bundled when they released iPhone 3.1.3 for iPhone and iPod touch earlier this month. While no ETA was given, judging by his tweet, it may not be too long before we get the updated version of blacksn0w which can unlock 05.12.01 baseband on iPhone 3.1.3 firmware.
Well it looks like Apple has started banning iPhone hackers from the iTunes App Store. Sherif Hashim, the iPhone developer and hacker who recently found an exploit in the latest iPhone OS 3.1.3, which could enable the unlock on 05.12.01 baseband for iPhone 3GS and 3G devices has been banned by Apple for the so called “security reasons”. This is what Sherif gets when he tries to access App Store from his iPhone.
