AT&T has today announced that it will be launching its 5G network in two U.S. cities, Austin and Indianapolis, towards the end of 2017.
AT&T customers who still own 2G phones such as the original iPhone will be looking to upgrade their devices, with the company having announced the discontinuation of its 2G wireless network.
AT&T has announced that it will be working with global industry leaders in order to ensure a wider 5G standard is created for a thorough, smoother rollout of the technology.
AT&T will begin 5G trials this year with speeds that are expected to be 10-100 times faster than 4G LTE. Here are all the details.
With plenty of technologically developed countries still afar from a decent 3G network coverage, and 4G LTE in no real sight, Samsung is busy planning for the future. It was almost a year ago when Samsung was reportedly working on testing the 5G mobile network technology with 1Gbps download speed, but since then, has achieved a seven-fold increase in speed. I will save the word "whopping" for the latest 7.5Gbps download speed that Samsung has just achieved in its test environment. This puts 5G at over 30 times faster than 4G LTE!
The world may still be getting used to the idea of having high-speed 4G wireless data at its collective fingertips, and many are still stuck with good-ol' 3G, but that doesn't mean that companies and governments the world over aren't clamoring to try and get ahead of the game. 5G is where it's going to be at in the next five or so years, and South Korea hopes to lead the way.
