After a beta process and following Apple’s addition of support for third-party navigation apps within CarPlay, Sygic has today updated its popular Car Navigation: GPS & Maps iOS app, adding CarPlay functionality.
This marks the latest stage in the evolution of an app that has been around for a long, long time and was one of the first GPS apps to make its way to the App Store back in the day.
The update is available as a download from the App Store and gives users the ability to connect to a compatible car and send Sygic’s maps to the built-in display. Drivers can then control the app via the in-car controls, whether on-screen or on a car’s steering wheel controls. This is a big addition to third-party navigation apps and many, like Google Maps and Waze, have already been updated to add CarPlay support.
Anyone who wants to try Sygic out can do exactly that by downloading the free app from the App Store. However, after an initial 7-day free trial users have to sign up for a bundle in order to gain a license.
Those licenses change depending on what is required and where they cover, so be sure to check your local App Store out for the full details. There are of course plenty of free options around, including the aforementioned Google Maps which has also been updated to add CarPlay support.
The inclusion of third-party apps in the world of CarPlay was one of the many features added as part of iOS 12 which launched last month.
