Apple has a strange knack for adding and omitting iOS features between devices in an almost arbitrary fashion, with some apps and elements present on one, missing from another with no particular rhyme or reason. For example, the iPad doesn’t have the native Stocks app present on the iPhone, and while this isn’t too much of a big deal (as well as a slew of apps, there are many ways to search on line for the market trends, for instance), it remains a bit of a head-scratcher.
The introduction of Siri as an iPhone 4S-only implementation made sense from a marketing point of view, since it gave consumers a reason (albeit, a rather flimsy one), to purchase a device which, for the most part, wasn’t too significant an improvement. But for apps like Stocks, it just seems as though Apple didn’t deem it significant enough to implement, and if you like to keep updated on the market’s progress, you might find Stock Market HD: Stocks and Shares to be of interest.
As already noted, there are plenty of apps already available which do a great job of monitoring Stocks on the iPad, but if you’re looking for something a little more in-keeping with the native iPhone version, then Stock Market HD – created by Lifelike Apps, Inc – is just the ticket.
It conjures its information on the stock market from “highly reliable sources” (where have we heard that from before, I wonder?), and just like the stock Stocks of iPhone, it’s been lovingly pieced together specifically for the Cupertino’s tablet.
In order to maintain a simple and clean user interface, the app is segmented into two sections, taking advantage of the considerable real estate the 9.7-inch display of the iPad has to offer. On the left column, stock tags are displayed in the familiar colors, with those all-important changes indicated in green for increase and red for a stock in decline. On the right hand side, you’ll find general news from a variety of reputable business outlets, as well as a graph of changes in whichever company you decide to highlight from the left.
Usually priced at $2.99, it’s free for a limited time, so now would be the perfect opportunity to pounce. Looking at it on the beautiful Retina display of the third-gen iPad, it’s something of a shame Apple decided against including Stocks as part of the iPad’s native roster, so let’s hope it finally debuts when iOS 6 arrives; along with the Clock app.
