Amazon has stayed relevant and popular throughout the years by offering a wide range of deals and products. I was quick to jump on the Prime bandwagon to take advantage of the free two-day shipping they offer and receive packages almost every week. Sometimes the giant even offers sales statistics; they are very interesting.
When you visit the Amazon.com page, you are greeted by the same product line up front and center: Kindles. They claim the Kindle Fire, in particular, is the most gifted device on Amazon. That may be true, but what about books?
Navigating to their Books page reveals a best-seller list, updated every hour. Some of the entries come at no surprise, especially the recent Steve Jobs biography. According to Amazon, the title has remained in the top 100 for a whopping 88 days. This is particularly interesting since the title hasn’t been out for very long but has maintained popularity.
Navigating even further to their best-seller books of 2001 reveals another interesting fact. Placed proudly at the number one spot: Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson.
You may be wondering why this is a big deal. Remember, this page is a list of the best selling book of 2011. The entire year! The book hasn’t been available for very long; it was released on October 23, 2011. That’s approximately 45 days the title has been available.
Originally, the authorized biography was planned for release on November 21st. Steve Jobs, the beloved co-founder of Apple, passed away on October 5 of this year. At the risk of sounding harsh, it seems a strategic business decision may have been made to push the release of the bio to the sooner date.
Winning the title of being the best selling book of 2011 was likely fueled by many pre-orders. After all, the bio has remained in the top 100 for 88 days while it was only available for 45 of them. Preordering on Amazon usually guarantees a fast delivery. In some cases, you’ll receive your shipment the day of release.
You can read the Steve Jobs biography on your Kindle or iPad by purchasing the eBook from their respective stores. Physical copies of the book are available as well in hardcover versions.
