Starlink Mini Puts Satellite Internet In The Palm Of Your Hand

Starlink has long offered people a way to get relatively fast internet even when they can’t get traditional broadband, especially in rural locations.

The satellite comms can be vital for people who need internet access in hard-to-reach places, and now they can take their connection with them thanks to Starlink Mini.

The new, smaller device is around the size of a chunky laptop and has a WiFi router built in so that all people need to do is connect to it as they would any other network.

Despite the size, the whole thing can still manage speeds of more than 100Mpbs, The Verge reports, while Starlink CEO Elon Musk thinks the device could change the world.

The prospects are obviously promising. People will be able to put a Starlink Mini in their bag and take it with them anywhere, removing the need to find WiFi or even 5G. In some parts of the world, that could truly be life-changing.

The device can be powered by a USB-C battery pack so long as it can kick out at least 100W, which many can do these days. As you’d expect though, this isn’t a cheap solution – the Starlink Mini is an add-on to existing Residential Starlink plans and costs $599 with an additional $30 per month service cost. Users will get 50GB of data for that, however.
