Spotify Gets Support For Playing Music Through Siri On iOS 13

Spotify has today released an updated iOS and iPadOS app to include support for SiriKit. That means that you can now use Siri to play songs rather than Apple Music.

Using Siri to get your jam on is as simple as adding “with Spotify” to the end of your musical request. Siri will then hand you off to Spotify and your music will play – at least that’s the theory. Spotify says that this will work on iPhone, iPad, CarPlay, AirPods, and HomePod but the latter isn’t playing ball for me. I suspect a new HomePod software update is needed.

Commands go further than simple song requests, too. Users can ask for playlists to be played, too, and if you could do it with Apple Music before, then it should now work with Spotify, too.

Other iOS and iPadOS 13 features are in play including Low Data Mode. With that feature enabled in the Settings app, the app will be forced to use less data than usual. That’s the kind of thing that can be a huge deal if you’re living with a particularly restrictive data cap.

Spotify has also now released its first tvOS app, bringing the streaming service to Apple TV for the first time. If that’s something you’ve been waiting for, then today is no doubt a good day for you!
