Back in December, we heard that the official Spotify app would be subject to an update, allowing users of the free service to enjoy uninterrupted music on shuffle. Today, the changes have come into effect for those on iOS, and the latest edition of the popular music streaming app brings forth all of the other alterations outlined just a month ago.
The new release allows you to listen to any playlist, album or artist on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. As along as you set the playback mode to shuffle, you can enjoy your favorite collections of music from those artists you love the most, and all this without paying a cent.
Of course, this does make things a little more enticing for those looking to try Spotify out for the first time, but it should be noted that the all-singing, all-dancing paid subscription is well worth shelling out for.
As a long-time skeptic of Spotify and its peers, I took the plunge around a year ago and paid for Premium. Since then, I’ve never looked back, and the sheer convenience of being able to search for songs, add them to playlists and save them for offline listening has been invaluable to me.
For $9.99 a month, the Premium subscription will let you access everything the app has to offer, and with harmonious sync between all of your Spotify-enabled devices, you’ll never have to be without your favorite tracks.
Like all good services, however, it does have one or two caveats. The first is that on some devices – Android and iOS – it can sporadically throw you out of the app, and if you’re offline, you cannot log back in again; so no music. Also, there are still many tracks missing from the service’s roster, although since this was once an issue with iTunes some years back before Apple sealed all of the licensing agreements, one would hope that in the next few years, Spotify’s range will increase to match or even eclipse that of its Cupertino rival.
