Apple is reportedly working on a new and special version of iPadOS that will be designed for use on larger iPads.
The update, which is said to be a special version of iPadOS 17, is thought to be ready in line for a release next year.
If so, the rumored 14.1-inch iPad will be the first to make use of it with the M3 Pro chip thought to be powering that tablet.
That’s according to a new report by Twitter leaker @analyst941, someone who doesn’t have a huge track record with leaks. However, they did correctly report that the iPhone 14 Pro would have a feature that was eventually announced as the Dynamic Island.
According to them, the new software will be designed to support up to 2 6K displays at 60Hz and will also be the first tablet to have the Pro versions of Apple’s in-house chip.
This isn’t the first time that we have heard rumors of a larger iPad, with the current iPad Pro at 12.9 inches set to be made to look small in comparison. Some reports suggest that Apple has tablets as large as 16 inches in the works, although it isn’t clear what naming convention these tablets will have.
Given talk of the iPhone 15 Pro Max being renamed to the iPhone 15 Ultra and last year’s Apple Watch Ultra release, it’s possible Apple may go with iPad Ultra here.
