Sony Unveils PlayStation 1 Look For The PS5 / Pro To Celebrate 30th Anniversary

Sony has continued its celebration of 30 years of the PlayStation brand with the launch of new special edition products that will immediately remind people of the original PlayStation console.

The original PlayStation was released on December 3, 1994, and had the now familiar gray plastic finish. To celebrate that look, Sony’s new products will replicate that finish with a new PlayStation 5 Pro, PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, and a PlayStation Portal all unveiled.

New Dual Sense Edge and DualSense controllers have also been announced that mimic the original PlayStation controller’s look.

In terms of the new consoles, the machines will also come with other special additions to the package that are designed to complete the look including new DualSense controllers. Other additions include:

  • Original PlayStation controller-style cable connector housing
  • Four PlayStation Shapes cable ties
  • PlayStation sticker
  • Limited Edition PlayStation Poster (1 of 30 possible designs)
  • PlayStation Paperclip

Preorders for the new hardware will begin on September 26 while the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection will officially be released to the public on November 21. “There will be 12,300 units of the PlayStation 5 Pro Console – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle available for customers to purchase, with limited edition numbers etched onto the unit. The number represents the month and date of the first PlayStation console launch,” Sony’s press release announcing the collection explains.
