In an exciting move, Sony has finally announced when it plans to make its PlayStation VR2 compatible with, yes you guessed it, PCs.
The PS VR2 has been graced with a host of gaming titles and content since launch, but the Japanese-giant expressed its intention to bring the wearable to the PC back in February, followed by a vague 2024 launch window.
Now we know that come August 7, users will be able to grab a PS VR2 PC adapter for plugging the headset into the PC. Users will be able to access the entirety of Steam VR’s game library which already includes some popular titles such as Half-Life: Alyx, Subnautica, No Man’s Sky, and more.
Sony says that the “estimated retail price” of this adapter is expected to be $59.99, and of course you’ll need to buy a DisplayPort 1.4 compatible cable as well.
That’s not all, Sony recommends some minimum PC requirements as well.
That said it is important to recognize that the PS VR2 hardware is exclusively designed for the PS5 and some feature differences may be present when using it on a PC.
Sony tells us:
PS VR2 was designed from the ground up specifically for PS5 – so you’ll notice that some key features, like HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback (other than rumble), are not available when playing on PC. However, other high-fidelity and sensory immersion features of PS VR2 are supported, including 4K visuals (2000 x 2040 per eye), 110-degree field of view, finger touch detection, and see-through view, as well as foveated rendering (without eye tracking) and 3D Audio in supported games.
Once the adapter is out, we’ll be able to know more about the performance and experience the PS VR2 will have on offer with a PC.
