Sony has today announced a new product designed for use internally within vehicles with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that finally sees it follow in the steps of competitors like Alpine, Kenwood, JVC, Pioneer, and JBL.
The new XAV-AX100 in-dash car audio system looks to offer consumers everything they need for long and arduous car journeys, including what the company defines as a “the best user interface”, along with instant connection to iPhone and Android smartphones, access to a variety of media file types, and up-to date, real-time information whilst on the move.
Sony isn’t the first company to manufacture a system of this nature, designed for the aftermarket CarPlay and Android Auto loving vehicle owners, but this is indeed the first Sony receiver that offers integration with Apple’s CarPlay platform, and Google’s Android Auto for use within vehicles.
With that in mind, in addition to providing a whole heap of functionality, this integration also means that purchasers of the XAV-AX100 with iPhones will also have access to Apple technologies, such as Siri, Apple Maps, Apple Music, along with the ability to easily make and receive telephone calls from a connected device. Those with Android devices will be able to take control of similar abilities, such as Google Maps, Play Music, as well as make and receive phone calls.
This latest audio product from Sony may feature the inclusion of CarPlay and Android Auto, but it’s the actual quality of the product and the sound experience that it provides which the Japanese company appears to be focusing on in its marketing attempts. Sony claims that the hardware ships with “high power sound”, and is equipped with technology that allows it to overcome engine noise to provide the best possible audio experience all those within the vehicle.
High power sound comes full throttle with the XAV-AX100 in-car audio system. 55 watts x 4 Dynamic Reality Amp 2 and EXTRA BASS™ low boost circuitry overcome engine noise and reproduce clear sound at any volume level with deep and punchy bass. The 10-band graphic equalizer gives an astonishing variety of sound, perfectly complementing EXTRA BASS™ for an enjoyable drive.
Anyone who has been looking for a new in-dash car audio system, and who was instantly interested by the inclusion of CarPlay and Android Auto support, will be able to purchase the Sony XAV-AX100 for $499.99 when it hits the U.S. market in late November.
