Sonos yesterday announced a new, high-end soundbar aimed at those who have home theaters. The Arc comes at the very tip of the product pyramid and it has the features to go with it. The company also revamped a couple of its other products, too.
Starting out with the Arc, Sonos says that it has as many as 11 multi-directional drivers as well as support for things like Dolby Atmos and AirPlay 2. The physical size of the thing – 45-inches in length – suggests Sonos expects it to be paired with pretty large TVs.
The Arc itself looks pretty gorgeous without being too in-your-face. It’s definitely something you’ll be able to ignore when you want to but then enjoy when it catches your eye.
Buyers of the Arc will have to pay $799 when it goes on sale on June 10 in a number of countries.
United States, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Italy, Sweden, Poland, Spain, Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, Austria, Luxembourg, Latin America, Singapore, and Hong Kong. Japan and China to follow.
Sonos has also released the Sonos Five to replace the outgoing Play:5. The audio capabilities are largely the same although there are new internals to handle performance improvements. You’ll pay $499 for a Play 5 with the same June 10 launch date.
Sonos also updated the Sonos Sub at $699 and the same launch date. Similar to the Sonos Five, this thing doesn’t get much more than improved internals so it can hold a WiFi signal better and be more performant overall.
Lastly, Sonos has also released a new Sonos S2 app to allow for support for Dolby Atmos and hi-res audio playback in general. While the app will be available to a select group of Sonos speakers, it does add a new feature worth being highlighted; and that is the ability to create custom room groups for easily playing music to multiple speakers in different rooms.
