If you’re buying a brand-new M4 iPad Pro there are a couple of things that you should probably know. As it turns out, not all iPad Pros are created equal and you’ll need to select two specific models to get more RAM and an extra CPU core.
While all of the OLED iPad Pros come with M4 chips inside, Apple’s tech specs for the new tablet confirm that some iPad Pros have an extra performance core, upping the total core count from 9 to 10.
Those same M4 chips also come with 16GB of RAM, double the 8GB that you’ll find in the other M4 iPad Pro tablets.
Apple doesn’t make a big deal out of it, but you’ll need to choose an iPad Pro with 1TB or 2TB of storage to get these upgraded specifications and that’s the only way to do it. It remains to be seen just how much of a difference these two changes will make to the majority of people of course, but it’s an interesting situation regardless.
Apple hasn’t confirmed why this is the case, but those who do choose the models with more storage capacity can expect at least a slight performance improvement over tablets with less space for installing apps and storing data.
Regardless of which iPad Pro you choose, deliveries begin on May 15.
