A new report claims that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 13 might support 25W fast charging via USB-C. For comparison’s sake, the current iPhone 12 lineup only supports up to 20W.
The new report, coming out of China from Mydrivers, has Apple’s next iPhones increasing charging speeds somewhat, although it will likely mean that Apple will need to sell a 25W or higher charger to go with the increased speeds.
That could be problematic, given Apple’s claim that it no longer ships chargers in the box to save waste.
The 20W to 25W increase would likely be a noteworthy one for iPhone 13 buyers, but it still pales in comparison to some of the fastest Android devices. The current Samsung flagships already support 25W charging, although some models from other companies can charge significantly more quickly than that.
It isn’t clear whether any of these speed increases will also come to the MagSafe charging solution that currently tops out at 15W.
If all goes according to previous years — barring last year of course — we expect Apple to announce the iPhone 13 lineup in or around September. A new, faster chip, improved cameras, and a 120Hz ProMotion display are all in the cards for what is otherwise not expected to be a huge upgrade over the outgoing iPhone 12 lineup.
