Apple has released a brand new version of its Shortcuts app, taking the app to version 2.1.2. This latest version, which is solely limited to devices running iOS 12 and above, is Apple’s latest progression of the app that started out its life as the Workflow app before being acquired by Apple Inc.
Apple put a lot of importance on the Shortcuts app earlier in the year, which means that you can almost guarantee that we are going to see more and more updates pouring out into the public domain as time progresses.
It’s also quite unique in the fact that it’s an application that is owned by Apple but which is offered as a standalone pre-release seed so that developers and other testers can get up and running with any new features and improvements prior to them actually landing in the public domain. Now, thanks to this release, it’s time for the public to play along.
With version 2.1.1 of Shortcuts, Apple has made a number of notable improvements that should hopefully improve the overall Shortcuts experience. This includes localization improvements, iCloud sync improvements, and a fix in place for a rather niggling issue that would throw up an error message when trying to run certain Shortcuts via the Search functionality. Apple has also focused efforts on fixing a number of known issues, such as fixing Play Sound or Open App actions when running via Siri and fixing the Send Payment action when sending Apple Pay Cash payments via a Shortcut.
Apple’s engineers have also added new Measurement actions, integrated better AirPlay integration via HomePod, and added new controls to allow users to stop sharing a Shortcut, should they wish to do so. It’s also rammed full of other bug fixes, such as the widget screen on the device not loading or running Shortcuts, and shared Shortcuts not showing up in the Safari splash screen.
All-in-all, this is an accomplished release from Apple that would actually seem to belie a version 2.1.2. Not that we are going to complain.
If you are a Shortcuts lover and have been waiting for some things to be fixed that have been getting on your nerves, then hopefully version 2.1.2 fixes your areas of concern. And you can grab it right now as an OTA update from the App Store.
