With the iPhone’s camera having reached the wonderful level of clarity it stands at today – allied to the impressive Retina display – it’s of little surprise that many of us are filling the Camera Roll album with hundreds upon hundreds of new entries every month.
Having only purchased an iPhone 4S at the start of April, I today decided to drag all of my images onto the computer in order to sort and archive them, since my Camera Roll had become borderline unmanageable. I was astonished to learn that there were in excess of 600, and since I usually take HDR shots as well, the total space taken up was a mind-blowing 2GB.
Having taken a little time to sort through them, however, I soon realized the vast majority of them were screenshots of apps for the benefit of my blog posts here at Redmond Pie, and it got me wondering whether there was a solution out there for those like me, with an abundance of screenshots clogging up the Camera Roll.
My hunt then took me to a relatively new app called Screenshot Journal, which, upon first launch, immediately scans through that bloated Camera Roll in search of screenshots. The ones discovered are then imported, and after a short wait while it processes them, all screenies are – for the first time in their lives – organized. They are arranged by month, and you can opt to view them either in their entirety, arrange your favorites, or mark those unwanted ones as trash.
It offers much more in-depth information and options when compared with the stock Photos app, and could be described as an iPhoto-like app dedicated solely to your screen caps. There’s information regarding what type of screenshot it is (Retina / Standard) , and for which device (iPad / iPhone). In terms of features, Screenshot Journal goes above and beyond the call of duty, offering up 32x zoom, and while most would not need to magnify a screenshot to such a degree, it allows every last pixel to be examined by those who may do.
It packs great features into a slick, well-presented UI, and for $1.99, it’s well worth the money. Care has clearly been taken to create a polished, truly niche app, and if you’re a serial screen-shotter like myself, this is your perfect sidekick!
