Schlage’s Smart Lock With Apple Home Key Support Announced, Here Are The Details

As CES gets into full swing we’re seeing tons of new smart home accessories being announced and Schlage is capturing the attention thanks to its latest HomeKit-enabled smart lock.

Dubbed the Schlage Encode Plus Smart WiFi Deadbolt, this thing not only allows you to unlock your door using a passcode, but also allows you to use an iPhone or Apple Watch to do it as well.

That’s made possible by support for home keys, something Apple allows users to add to the Wallet app. Once there, the keys function in much the same way as Apple Pay Express Transit, allowing people to lock and unlock doors without the need for a physical key. What’s more, the devices don’t even need to be powered on to function as physical keys, either.

The Schlage Encode Plus Smart WiFi Deadbolt is the newest device in Schlage’s connected portfolio and the first smart lock solution in the North American market to support Apple’s home keys for iPhone and Apple Watch. With a Schlage Home Key in Apple Wallet, homeowners don’t even need to unlock their iPhone or Apple Watch to open their lock, and with Power Reserve, even if the iPhone needs to be charged, they may still be able to tap to unlock for up to five hours after their iPhone battery runs out

Schlage says that its new smart lock will be available for purchase this spring and will cost $299.99. If you’re in the market for a new smart lock, this is very much one to consider.
