Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4, which was announced prior to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus earlier on this month, has still yet to make general release, but with ten million units of Apple’s new duo of devices sold over the first weekend alone, Sammy is now pulling out all the stops to ensure that its just-showcased handset reaches the end user as soon as possible.
The Korean manufacturer regularly takes the wraps off its latest Note on the first week of September, but since the iPhone has always been considerably smaller than each Note release, they’ve continued to attracted different demographics of the consumer market and remain largely unaffected by the presence of one another.
But this time around, we all knew that Apple was going to launch two larger models, and even though Samsung would have been aware of this as well, it casually, if not naively, decided to let Apple usher its new handsets into the market completely unopposed. Sure, the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge were made public before the iPhone and iPhone 6, but while the latter pairing have shifted more than ten million units ahead of a move that will see the roll-out to extend by 22 more countries later on this week, the Note 4 is still nowhere to be seen.
Given what the leaks told us of the iPhone 6 prior Apple’s big event on September 9th, allied to the utterances of analysts suggesting that Android users may jump ship to Apple’s devices in their droves, it’s somewhat surprising that Samsung didn’t see all this coming and, in turn, make the necessary provisions. It was known for many, many months that the iPhone 6 would be subjected to an increase in form factor and thus display size; plenty of time, one would think, to get the Note 4 out for a simultaneous showdown with Apple’s latest and greatest.
But here we are, Apple already 10 million devices down and counting, while Samsung is scrambling around to push forward the release of the Note 4. With news also floating around of the Galaxy maker’s share price dropping to its lowest in two years, it’s clear that the iPhone 6 has had a dramatic impact, although it’s hard not to feel as though Samsung hasn’t helped itself a great deal here.
As per The Korea Times, an unspecified Samsung employee told the publication that "the positive reaction from consumers to those two Apple devices prompted us to launch the Note 4 earlier than previously scheduled," and instead of the original October release bracket, it could begin retailing as soon as September 26th, or this Friday.
